Voting for the 2016 Shiitake Awards going on now until March 1, 2017

The 8th Annual Shiitake Awards is here! For 8 years now, the annual Shiitake Awards spotlights the most insane and inane stories surrounding the "sex offender" topic. The Shiitakes is a parody of the infamous Golden Raspberry Awards ("Razzies"), which parodies award shows like the Oscars or Golden Globes. So we are, in essence, a parody of a parody. Our job at the Shiitakes is to spotlight and ridicule the people who use the "sex offender" issue to advance their careers in the worst way possible, as well as spotlighting and deriding their inane ideas.

Each year, we open up voting in January, we open up the voting for each of 8 categories plus a special category. This year, the special category pits two famous victim industry profiteers against each other in our special "Civil War" category, and of course, your chance to determine which state is the worst/ dumbest state in the USA, a.k.a., the legendary ICBS National CHUMPionship. Florida has maintained a stranglehold on this category for much of the existence of the Shiitake awards, but as always, two states have staked their claim for the title. Who was the dumbest politician, newscaster, cop, and wannabe vigilante of the year? What was the dumbest news story or new law of the year? That is up for you to decide.

Vote for one, and ONLY one, candidate. I know that the decision is hard enough for you, but for the Shiitake Awards Selection Committee (tm), we struggled more to whittle down the candidates to three of the worthiest selections. Vote on every category, and share with your friends.

Note: This is a project that I enjoy doing because it is fun and a form of stress relief. All joking aside, it is sad to note that I've been running this award for almost a decade and there is an abundance of nominees every year. This award is "just for fun," but it is also useful for advocates because we point out the worst abuses of registered citizens, and these stories are indictments against the registry. Please vote and share, then follow & send nominations to the official Shiitake-Worthy blog at

-- Thanks for voting!
Derek W. Logue of

Shiitake Awards 2016 FINALISTS

1. Virginia SB 666: This bill bans registered citizens from buying those obnoxious "specialty license plates" that benefit children's programs. (Sadly, this law actually passed.) This bill affected a whopping 13 license plates.
2. Florida HB 1179: Fee scale bill that would have forced registrants to pay up to $300 just to visit Florida. (Thankfully the bill died.)
3. Virginia Robby’s Rule”: Legislation passed and enforced adding 5,604 names to the Virginia Sex Offender and Crimes Against Minors Registry. The so-called "Supplement" to the list includes information on individuals not previously listed who were convicted of certain sexual offenses on or after July 1, 1980, and before July 1, 1994, according to a state police news release.

  1. Mass. State Rep. Shaunna O’Connell: In criticizing a state Supreme Court nominee for stating the registry was “too expansive,” Rep. O'Connell (R-Taunton) argued that the nominee’s stance "render her unfit to serve as a justice." She took to talk radio and her own online platforms urging Massachusetts residents to write Governor's Council members and encourage them to reject Budd's nomination. Earlier in the year, she claimed, “"The sex offender registry is constantly attacked so that sex offenders can hide."
  2. Catherine Hanaway, Missouri Gubernatorial Candidate (lost primary): Blamed “liberal sexual permissiveness” for what she claims is a growing acceptance of CP.
  3. Hector Balderas, New Mexico Attorney General: He and his staff walked out of a legislative session in protest over a bill allowing teen sexters to get off the registry, citing that the NM ICAC would lose funding. At least he admitted it is all about the money!

  1. Darryn Hinch, Australian Senator: In promoting Australia’s version of IML, Hinch stated, "100,000 convicted sex offenders on the register ... the private register, go to Indonesia every year…They're not going there for the sun, they're going there for the sons and the daughters. That's [an issue] that I can get involved in, and they are the sort of thing I want to do."
  2. Tina Dionne of East Millinocket, Maine: Admits she sees the registry as a form of shame and vengeance. “I didn’t care how much prison time [Cote] got, I wanted him to be on the list for life. I don’t want him to be able to do this to anyone else. No matter where [Cote] goes, people are going to have to know what he did…The sex offender registry helps people be aware of what people like him have done. They can’t just take off to another state and start over. That has to follow them.”
  3. Mass. State Rep. Shaunna O’Connell: Her direct attack on the anti-registry movement; "The sex offender registry is constantly attacked so that sex offenders can hide."

2016 EVERYDAY ZEROES (Vigilante Fails)

  1. Jeb & Jessica Lessley, B’ham AL: Posted a billboard in their yard and made many allegations on her registrant neighbor, and possibly involved in a “suspicious” fire at the neighbor’s house. Also, harassing registrants online.
  2. Conchita Sarnoff: Wrote a book claiming 1 MILLION children are sex trafficked in the US without any evidence and bashed anyone who challenged her dubious stats.
  3. Curtis J. Hurt, Kelso WA: Failed at winning a local election because he’s mostly known for forming a wannabe vigilante group called “The Punisher Squad.”

2016 HOLY SHIITAKES AWARD (Dumbest RSO-Related Story)

  1. Littlefield TX throws out mail-in ballots of registrants in civil commitment center: If civil commitment is NOT prison, then there was no legal basis to toss out the votes.
  2. Washington Supreme Court grants release of Level 1 info to crazy vigilante: It apparently does not matter that Donna Zink is violating state law by disclosing the unlisted Level 1 info publicly, the state Sup Ct feels level ones have no rights. Looks to me like the Court has been hitting the legal weed a bit too much.
  3. FBI becomes world’s largest CP distributor: It’s not distribution when the FBI takes over a CP site and runs it for weeks, apparently. Maybe FBI means Feds Bestowing Illegal images?

  1. Larry Huss, OR Catalyst: His article begins like this—“ Are you a sexual deviant?  Are you a serial rapist?  A child molester?  A sexual predator?  Well welcome to Oregon, the government has got your back. Have you repeatedly raped a thirteen year old child over a three year period?  Well you could be Oregon’s governor.”
  2. Leo Terrell, HLN: Black Lives Matter attorney and friend of OJ Simpson’s family, who attacked a registrant activist Derek Logue on Dr Drew’s show, claiming we want to abolish the registry to go out and commit more crimes. Logue eventually told Terrell to “stick it” on the air.
  3. Melanie Michael, WFLA: Not only did she write the article about Illuminati “pedo symbols” on Monster truck giveaway toys, she bashed anyone who questioned her approach to the story, claiming her detractors weren’t “patriotic.”
  4. Nancy Grace, HLN: Nancy Grace is a special kind of stupid, but she officially jumped the shark when she covered the Noah Chamberlin (a TN kid who wandered into the woods and died of hypothermia). Grace’s insistence in wasting police resources harassing registrants was so out of line, even Marc no-Klaas rebuked her.

Keystone Kop of the Year

  1. David Beth, Sheriff, Kenosha Co WI: Actively joined citizen protesters in trying to deter a registered citizen from living in his community
  2. Chris Nocco, Sheriff, Pasco Co. FL: Ordered his department to harass registered citizens suing his department in court then trying to cover it up.
  3. Carlos Ocasio, Detective, Pasco Co FL Sheriff’s office: Admits to the media the intent of his compliance checks are to scare registrants out of his county, they collect information even on registrants’ family members, and even used Orwellian references in his interview (“Big Brother is watching you.”)

Victim Industry Profiteer Civil War: Who is the GREATER of two evils? You decide

  1. Lauren Book: Daughter of powerful and corrupt lobbyist Ron Book; law named after her forced registered citizens in Miami into homeless camps including the infamous Julia Tuttle Causeway camp; raised $750k from Ron’s political cronies to run unopposed to win a FL state senate seat; Her father run’s Lauren’s Kids, a victim group named after her; wrote a kid’s book named after herself, “Lauren’s Kingdom”; Had a portion of a major highway in Broward Co named after her
  2. Laura Ahearn: Runs “Parents For Megan’s Law” in Suffolk Co. NY; has ties to many powerful and corrupt politicians including disgraced former senator Dean Skelos and disgraced former police chief James “The Porn King” Burke (who may even be a serial killer); runs the ONLY private victim advocacy group in the USA that conducts compliance checks, a function of law enforcement; Routinely sues registered citizens who challenge her regime; is responsible for the persistent “100,000 missing sex offenders” myth

  1. FloriDUH: FloriDUH just elected Lauren Book to a senate seat, gave us news of Illuminati pedophile symbols on kid’s toys, and the corruption of the Pasco Co sheriff’s office. Plus, FloriDUH has a dynasty. They’re the defending champions. It’s FloriDUH! Need I say more?
  2. Virginia is for Losers: Virginia brings SB 666 and Robby’s Rule as weapons to unseat the national champions but is a pair of stupid bills enough to topple the FlorIDIOT dynasty? You decide.
  3. Hog-Washington State: The vigilante scumbag capital of the US gives us two high profile Everyday Zeroes candidates in Donna Zink and Curtis Hart, plus the state’s Supreme Court gave zany Zink the green light to name and shame level 1 registrants. But can this dynamic duo topple the Floridiot legacy? You decide.

The 2015 Shiitake Awards Finalists

Better late than never, right? After focusing on HR 515 for so long, on to business.

Since 2008, Once Fallen has hosted the annual Shiitake Awards, a parody "award show" that spotlights the craziest sex offender-related stories of the year. While the awards is intended to be somewhat tongue-in-cheek, it highlights the worst and most serious laws, politicians, and stories of individuals using and abusing registered citizens and the struggles they face, from registration to fearmongering to failed vigilante actions. Every year, dozens of stories are collected from across the globe and added to the Shiitake-Worthy blog, and with help of a "selection committee," the finalists for the Shiitake Awards are decided. But it is up to YOU, the voter, to decide who among the three finalists should "win" one of the seven categories.

This year, the Shiitake Awards is adding a new category -- "Keystone Cop" of the year.

Read carefully, be offended, laugh at the stupidity, and most importantly, make your selection. Help me decide who to send a Shiitake Award letter this year.

Below are the finalists for each category:

1. Which of the following new laws deserves the Dumbest Law of 2015 award?

Ohio HB-353: This bill would require registrants to give personal information on ALL adults living in the household of the registrant, presumably to warn them they are living with a registrant. Because nothing could possibly go wrong with giving the personal info of private citizens to government agents, right?

Oklahoma SB-578: Would turn over control of Oklahoma’s segregationist sex offender “nursing homes” to the state Dept. of Corrections. Because we all know how well "separate but equal" works.

Virginia HB-1366: Requires a registrant seeking the right to step foot on any school to attend any of his or her own child’s functions to petition the Commonwealth Attorney & the school administrator for that right by way of a public hearing, and the petitioner has to have the notice published in a newspaper; any member of the public can come in and testify. Because, what parent doesn't want to embarrass their kids by letting putting all this in the newspaper, right?

2. Which quote do you feel deserves the award for "Dumbest Quote of 2015"?

MI State Senator Rick Jones: In reintroducing a bill that will limit the living and working rights of registered citizens, Jones said the following --“A federal judge recently ruled that parts of Michigan’s sex offender registration law were too vague. As a result, sex offenders of all kinds can once again hang around our schoolyards. Whether the convicted sex offender is a flasher or a pedophile, they have no business hanging out at the local school playground and leering at children. It is important to clarify the law so that we are protecting our children and still meeting the federal guidelines.”

NH State Rep Dick Marston: Derailed a bill that would provide a relief from harsh registry fees for indigent registrant, claiming it would be unfair to taxpayers -- “There is a provision in the law that would currently allow the fee to be waived if the offender was unable to afford it. The (House Criminal Justice) committee determined that repealing the fee would have resulted in virtually eliminating the registry, which would be a disservice to the citizens of NH.”

Utah Republican Senator Paul Ray: If you are accused of a Sex Trafficking offense, he wants to kill you -- “I got so fed up with what I've seen. It's time to take the ultimate jump and say if you traffic a kid for sex, we're going to kill you…I'm going turn the tables on them, and say 'prove to me why you can execute for treason and I can't execute for a crime that in my world is ten times worse than treason.'”

3. Which private citizen/ wannabe vigilante deserves the coveted "Everyday Zeroes" Award for 2015?

Alexander Horowitz: Administrator from The Doe Fund, a nonprofit organization which independently owns and operates the Peter Jay Sharp Center for Opportunity, which helps the disadvantaged get back on their feet, threatened to shut down his entire program rather than accept level 2 & 3 registrants into his program. “These people need help, we’re not debating that,” says Horwitz of the sex offenders. “But they’re not going to get it in our facility.”

Doug Ennen of Hemet CA: Displayed two bright green posters in a Hemet neighborhood in an effort to warn neighbors of a man who is registered as a sex offender on the Megan’s Law database. Doug made the posters, one of which says “Child Molester Danger,” and taped them to his two cars. He then parked one of those vehicles in front of a registered sex offender’s home.

Russell Speigle of Cottage Grove, WI: Tried to burn down the house of a registrant, ended up catching himself on fire instead. Flame on!

4. Which of these crazy 2015 sex offender-related stories deserves the unique award of 'Holy Shiitakes"?

Dream Foundation revokes dream trip for Vet who is also Registered Citizen: A dream trip to the Grand Canyon has been revoked for a local terminally ill veteran after the dream-granting organization discovered that he was a convicted sex offender. *** , 62, of Dayton, received a free vacation from the Dream Foundation, a national wish-granting organization for adults with life-threatening illnesses. *** and his brother, ***, have terminal cancer. Their three siblings were to accompany them on the trip.

U-Mass Professor Mia Bloom compares "Sexual Predators" to members of ISIS: Mia Bloom of the University of Massachusetts says groups like ISIS and al-Qaeda go after young women in the West by using other young women as online recruiters. The tactics they use are similar to that of an online sexual predator: establishing a rapport and building trust. "It's another woman. She's cool. She's just a few years older. And so this is how they will initially approach," Bloom says. It's an attempt to dupe unsuspecting young women in places like the United Kingdom, France and United States into joining. But it begs another question: Are the young women who end up being recruited victims or terrorist masterminds?

Couple steals Xmas toys right under the noses of the Mass. SO Registry Board: According to police, a couple walked into the Sex Offender Registry Board and stole $1,000 worth of toys…a man and a woman walked into the officer on Congress Street, claiming to be there to pick up toys. They were not asked for their ID’s or asked to sign in. They were buzzed in and shown where all of the toys were. The two then gathered up the would-be gifts collected from a toy drive, and walked out the front door. What a bunch of idiots!

5. Which of our wonder media personalities deserves the 2015 'Worst News Mutt" Award?

Peter Schorsch, Aside from spending his days kissing up to Lauren Book, wrote an article bashing the Anti-Registry Movement’s Rally in Tally event this past April. “Critics of Lauren Book, you have the right to remain silent.”

John Kobylt and Ken Chiampou, KFI Radio (CA): Radio shock jocks who trolled California RSOL head Janice Bellucci on the air. Now, during the interview, John Kobylt mentions that not only should "regular people" chase Registered Citizens out of their communities and annoy and threaten them until they leave, apparently John claims he has actually engaged in this behavior.

Elaine Ambrose, HuffPost: Writes a bad piece called, “Monsters Are Real: Protect Your Grandkids From Sex Offenders” and calls her detractors “assholes” and claims her sources are valid after failing to present the sources. “His conviction has robbed our neighborhood of complacency and turned us into vigilantes. The carefree sounds of laughter from my childhood summers are silenced by a heavy click from the turning of the lock.”

6. Which of our elected officials is most deserving of the 2015 "Dumbest/ Worst Politico" Award?

US Rep. Chris Smith (R-NJ): International Megan’s Law is back again, this time under the guise of stopping sex trafficking. Smith has pimped this bill since 2008 and finally passed it on 2/1/16

Dennis "The Menace" Wiley, judge in Berrien Co., MI: This is the judge that sentenced 19 year old Zach Anderson to 25 years for having sex with a teen he met online who lied about her age.

FloriDUH state senator Dorothy Hukill: Plans on introducing a bill to prevent registered citizens from possessing drones out of her perverted thoughts about SOs using them to spy on kids

Which of the boys in blue most deserves the 2015 "Keystone Cop of the Year"?

Scott Parker of the U.S. Marshals Services, E Dist of NC: “We want sex offenders to know we are working 24/7 to make sure they are held accountable. In addition, we want to be the voice for the victims,” said Scott Parker, during one of the USMC's many harassing "compliance checks."

Nassau Co. FL Sheriff Bill Leeper: Much like Sheriff Gorden from last year's awards show, this Sheriff posted big red signs at the houses of a dozen registrants just in time for Halloween. Monkey see, monkey do?

Graham Co. NC Sheriff Danny Milsaps: This Sheriff sent out notices to all registered citizens in his county that if they want to attend a church service in his county, they must do so at the county jail. Will Communion wine be served?

Finally, which state deserves the worst state of the year?

(Look, we know everyone votes Florida every year. They have a dynasty. But, in the interest of fairness, I have added a write-in candidate this year. If you can think of a state worse than the land of 'Duh, let me know).

Time to vote for the 2014 Shiitake Awards! Voting Ends February 1, 2015

Vote here:

It is time once again to vote for the 2014 Shiitake Awards!
Vote on the dumbest sex offender stories and the worst among those who exploit sex offenders for person game. Vote and share the awards with fellow activists! Voting ends February 1. It is free and fun. Most of all, you get to stick it to those who stick it to Registered Citizens.

Below is the full list of Nominees.
Please pick the 2014 Worst News Mutt (Worst Reporter). There are four finalists.
  1. Don Lehman, Glen Falls Post-Star (NY): In the story on an auto-accident, Don Lehman made it a point to bring out the past of one of the accident victims, who is a Registered Citizen. It is fairly amazing that a number of individuals rebuked Lehman; Don Lehman himself proclaims, "there seems to be inexplicable sympathy for sex offenders in some circles" in an article he wrote to defend himself (adding “Since many readers seem to be ignorant about how the newsgathering and publishing process works, here is some insight.”). He later implies the man should be in prison for life but the system failed, all of which has nothing to do with the auto accident.
  2. Mike DeForest, WKMG 6 Orlando (FL): DeForest ran a sweeps week "Sex Offenders who have jobs and we get one fired" story in October, which featured a number of Registered Citizens trying to make a living. DeForest bragged about getting one fired. A couple of months later, one of the targets of his first story won $3 Million from a scratch-off ticket, and DeForest ran a nasty story on the lotto winner. DeForest seems almost obsessed with this man, making it a point to remind readers of his earlier expose.
  3. David J. Neal, Miami Herald (FL): This guy is the antithesis of award-winning Miami Herald reporter Fred Grimm. This guy is not even a news reporter—he’s a sports writer. But since he decided to write a report on a former Florida International University baseball pitcher throwing the first pitch at an FIU game and that this pitcher is now a Registered Citizen. He even justified his article in a subsequent email: “Because it was adjudged to be of news value when a large public university gives even the minor honor of throwing out the first pitch to someone with that crime on his record. Some very vocal people had the same reaction as you. Others had the "What were they thinking?" reaction.” Not to mention much of the subsequent correspondence consisted of snide remarks.
  4. Margery Eagan, Boston Herald (MA): The Boston Herald is not exactly a bastion for unbiased and non-opinionated reporting, but Eagan takes the cake by suggesting banning Registered Citizens from winning the lottery because one registrant used his lotto winnings for bad purposes. “Simple common sense tells you this spells disaster: a dangerous career sex offender, with $10 million to burn…A known pedophile wins $10 million in the lottery. Within days, the Lottery realizes it. And neither they, nor anyone else, says, wait a minute here. So from 2008 until now, **** lived as he chose on his winnings, and who knows how many children paid.”
Please choose the 2014 Worst Politico (politician). There are four candidates.
  1. Grady Judd, Sheriff, Polk Co., FL: Sheriff Dudd’s online entrapment stings involved trolling the Plenty of Fish dating site to entrap people looking for relations with adults, then switching the ages after contact had been made. Sheriff Grady Judd, when asked about over-aggressive detectives, instead went on the offensive: "The concern (I have) is that you inflate your investigative reporting to make it glitzy." He continued to call those entrapped “Predators” even when the DA elected not to prosecute. It is worth noting Sheriff Judd was the sheriff who arrested the man who was allegedly selling a "pedophile guide" on Amazon back in 2010 for "obscenity charges" despite living in another state.
  2. Richard T. "Dick" Moore, State Sen., MA: Proposed a bill to prevent Registered Citizens from winning the lottery. Only a guy named Dick could come up with this. “The money, Mr. Moore suggested, could be withheld and donated to a fund for victims. ‘Whenever (a sexual offense) happens, the victims of sex crimes need certainly a lot of counseling and other assistance,’ Mr. Moore said. ‘And if someone is benefiting from the state lottery, we ought to be able to access that money to help pay some of the bills of people who have been hurt.’ Asked about potential ramifications on civil liberties, Mr. Moore acknowledged he was "sure the (American Civil Liberties Union) wouldn't like it.”
  3. Matt Gaetz, State Rep., FL: Gaetz played a role in preventing the former head of the FL sex offender program from getting a job in Wisconsin, in addition to his constant pimping of FloriDUH’s new “scorched earth” policy. Today FloriDUH, tomorrow the world? Did I mention he had a recent arrest for DUI and can be found on mugshot websites?
  4. Kurt Wallace, State Rep., AL: Kurt Wallace tried for years to push a statewide anti-clustering law. After ReFORM-AL fought this year’s version of the anti-clustering law, Wallace secretly pushed a local anti-cluster law to shut down a halfway house in his district, which went from committee to Governor’s desk in 12 days, superfast by Alabama standards. On the upside, he was voted out of office. A Shiitake Award would be a fitting swan song.
Please choose the DUMBEST quote of 2014! There are four candidates.
  1. Emily Roberts, aka “The Guidance Girl” (NY): Roberts is a licensed psychotherapist in NY working mostly with teens. This quote came from the Dec. 11th Dr. Drew on Call segment, also featuring Once Fallen, in a discussion about the Registered Citizen who won the lottery in Florida. Not only does she feel we should suffer, we have a high recidivism rate as well: “Well, they should have to suffer. I mean they have ruined someone’s life forever. This child will forever harmed. This child will never be the same again. And, the other children, because it is pretty likely that he offended and hurt other children, as well beside these two children, because around 75 percent of people who offend do it again. So, we do not know. He could have done it again.”
  2. Lauren Book, Lauren’s Kids (FL): Lauren Book stated the following in support of adding the words “Sexual Predator” to the driver’s licenses of some registrants in FloriDUH: “This designation is a tool that we as community members – from law enforcement officers to TSA agents to teachers, daycare workers, doctors, nurses and everyone in between – can use to further protect the children and families of Florida… I believe a statutory reference is too benign. This is a scarlet letter that clearly states ‘WARNING! Keep this individual away from children!’ They are a clear and imminent danger, and parents and families have a right to know.”
  3. Barney Bishop, Florida Smart Justice Alliance (FL): The following statement was given during testimony before the Florida legislature in support of 50 year mandatory minimums: “We think that very long sentences are warranted; in fact, we'd like longer sentences. And I would just say in closing that with respect to smart justice that maybe what we ought to really be doing is thinking about giving the victims’ families an opportunity to have visitation with the perpetrators and a pair of scissors. That's our idea of smart justice, Mr. Chairman, not anything short of that.”
  4. Chicago PD Detective John J. Escalante (IL): When Apple moved to add cop-blocking encryption to newer cell phones, LEOs like Escalante tried using Predator Panic to argue against the privacy measure. “Apple will become the phone of choice for the pedophile,” said John J. Escalante, chief of detectives for Chicago’s police department. “The average pedophile at this point is probably thinking, I’ve got to get an Apple phone.”
Please select the dumbest law of 2014!
  1. Arizona HB 2515: Arizona’s so-called “revenge porn” law makes it a felony — and potentially a sex offense — to share any image of nudity or sexuality before you get consent from every person pictured. Among the first to be investigated under the new law was an art photography display published in the Phoenix New Times. The ACLU is now representing a number of publications in a class action suit against the state (Antigone Books v. Horne).
  2. California SB 967: Also known as the “Yes Means Yes” or the “affirmative Consent” law, the bill requires affirmative consent to be “ongoing throughout the sexual activity,” meaning that sexual partners must agree to each step of a sexual encounter as it progresses and consent can be revoked at any time. The standard would apply to all sexual encounters regardless of whether the parties are having a one-night stand or are in a long-term relationship. Critics say the proposal unfairly burdens those accused of sexual assault. “How does a person prove they receive consent shy of having it videotaped,” Joe Cohn, the legislative policy director at the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education, told Inside Higher Ed. Cohn said the policy reverses the presumption of innocence for the accused, which he called a “dramatic and important shift.”
  3. Missouri Constitutional Amendment #2: This bill is a load of #2 alright; the amendment allows hearsay evidence of past sex crimes against someone in court accused of a sex crime. This is all the more interesting considering this is an amendment to the state constitution.
Please Select the 2014 Everyday Zeroes (this category is for people who aren't politicians or reporters). There are four finalists.
  1. Carole Stabile, Oregon: Carole Stabile, a feminist professor at the University of Oregon, expressed outrage that the UO hired a Registered Citizen speak at a campus event to discuss the consequences of committing a sex crime. -- “We’re universities, for heaven’s sake, where we have some of the brightest minds in the country working on and researching these very issues. Why not bring some of them in to talk to students in at risk subcultures rather than a sex offender turned campus lecture circuit speaker whose main argument is that raping a baby sitter can happen to anyone?”
  2. Chad Hightower, Texas: Hightower, a now-former Wise County Texas Sheriff's Deputy, was arrested for forcing Registered Citizens to pose for embarrassing nude photos while claiming it was part of the registration process. -- According to the arrest warrant affidavit filed by Texas Ranger Ron Pettigrew, Hightower forced a male sex offender to strip naked and be photographed…On June 17, he met with Hightower to complete the paperwork, and was told nude photos would need to be taken. “Deputy Hightower represented this as a change in the sex offender registration required by the state,” the affidavit states. The victim was taken to a bathroom in the sheriff’s office lobby where he stripped naked, and Hightower took “several photographs from all sides” before telling the victim he could get dressed and leave, the affidavit states. A month later, the victim had to meet with Hightower again to update his sex offender information. He was told the photos were defective due to a glare, and more would need to be taken…Hightower directed the victim into the impound office where he once again was photographed in the nude. The two were the only ones in the building at that time. “After a short time, Deputy Hightower reportedly advised (the victim) he believed the next thing the State was going to require was photographs of a sex offender’s erect penis,” the affidavit states. “Deputy Hightower asked (the victim) if he could obtain an erection for him, so that the needed photographs could be taken and (the victim) would not have to return in the future for them.”
  3. Brent Oesterblad, Chuck Rodrick, & Traci Heisig, aka Offendex: Offendex is notorious for creating a private registry to attempt to extort Registered Citizens. This year, they lost a $3.4 million civil suit -- A shadowy network of Arizona-based Internet companies that used public records to demand money from sex offenders and harass those who complained has imploded amid lawsuits, court hearings and new standards enacted by banks, social media and technology companies. The websites, including, SORArchives and, in November stopped seeking payments from people in exchange for removing profiles, blaming the change on "many conflicts, threats, unreasonable requests and false accusations about this website…In an interview with Call 12 for Action last month, website operator Brent Oesterblad accused owner Charles "Chuck" Rodrick of taking elaborate steps to conceal his ownership of the websites and misleading state and federal judges about it. Rodrick and Oesterblad, both of whom were convicted on fraud-related charges in the early 1990s, are at the center of several state and two federal lawsuits… Among the financial transactions detailed in court were tens of thousands of dollars to Rodrick's girlfriend, Traci Heisig. Heisig, who is a court reporter and owns Desert Hills Reporting in Phoenix, is a joint plaintiff in the defamation suit against Rodrick's ex-wife, her boyfriend and a sex offender in Washington.”
  4. Kellie Green, Texas: Kellie Green used a giant-sized photo of her 12 year old girl as a prop to attempt to force the small town of Mart to fire a Registered Citizen hired to perform sanitation duties for the town. -- At this week’s Mart City Council meeting, Kellie Green, 38, who is no relation to Lonnie Green, stood before the elected officials holding up an enlarged photo of her 12-year-old daughter. “How has the council worked toward her safety?” she said. “Can you tell her that you had the safety of the children of Mart in mind when you hired this person?” Kellie Green demanded that Lonnie Green be fired. The mother of six children said the council needs to realize the city can’t absorb the liability of keeping him as an employee. Hiring one sex offender sets a precedent that hiring all sex offenders is OK, she said. If one child is hurt because of that practice, the repercussions, financially, legally and publicly, would devastate the city, Kellie Green said.
Please Select the winner for the 2014 Holy Shiitakes Award (dumbest sex-offender-related story of the year). There are three finalists
  1. Manassas City (VA) cops proposed making child pornography to prosecute child pornography: A 17 year old boy takes a picture of his penis and sent it to a 15 year old girl (the girl sent naked pics of herself to the boy but was not charged for some reason). The girl's parents call the cops, and the cops charge the 17 year old boy with possession AND manufacturing child porn. It seems the police came up with a brilliant idea-- they were going to take the kid to the hospital, give him a shot of something to give him an erection, and take a picture of the boy's erect penis to compare with the photos he sent to his girlfriend. The plan was later dropped, but the suggestion alone is Shiitake-worthy.
  2. Alabama high school’s failed attempt at an entrapment sting leads to an alleged rape: I wonder if these "edumacators" got the idea from that idiotic Dateline NBC show, TCAP. If you can't trust police with conducting a proper sting, then how reasonable is a plot where school officials hire a mentally handicapped girl to be bait for a potential rapist? – “A 14-year-old girl with special needs allegedly was raped at school after a teacher’s aide persuaded her to act as bait to catch an accused sexual predator, a fellow student…On January 22, 2010, the boy approached a 14-year-old girl with special needs who had already declined his “recent, repeated propositions” for sex, according to the brief. “She was not physically or mentally handicapped, although she does qualify for special education classes,” Artrip told CNN. When the girl told Simpson, she encouraged the girl to “meet (the boy) in the bathroom where teachers could be positioned to ‘catch him in the act’ before anything happened,” according to the brief. The girl initially refused, but then agreed, according to Artrip. Simpson and the girl went to Dunaway’s office to explain the plan. Dunaway “did not respond with any advice or directive,” according to the brief. “If this was problematic for the administration it would have been better to express that on the front end instead of the back end,” said attorney McGriff Belser III, who represents Simpson. The girl left Dunaway’s office, found the boy in the hallway, and “agreed to meet for sex,” according to the brief. “Something went wrong,” said Artrip. Instead of meeting in the boys’ bathroom on the special needs students’ corridor, the boy told the girl to meet him in the sixth-grade boys’ bathroom, in another part of the school, according to the brief. “No teachers were in the bathroom to intervene,” the brief reads.
  3. Withholding sex and not listening to your lover's feelings count as "sexual violence" at the University of Michigan: Michigan's football program isn't the only embarrassment to the University of Michigan these days. It seems UM has published a rather strange set of definitions of sexual violence which includes "withholding sex" and "discounting your partner's feelings." -- Examples of abuse listed on the University of Michigan’s domestic violence awareness website say “sexual violence” includes “withholding sex and affection” and “discounting the partner’s feelings regarding sex” – definitions that have come under fire by some men’s rights activists. The terms, found under the heading “definitions,” also suggest verbal or psychological abuse include: “insulting the partner; ignoring the partner’s feelings; withholding approval as a form of punishment; yelling at the partner; labeling the partner with terms like crazy [and] stupid.” Janet Bloomfield, social media director for “A Voice For Men,” an activist group that counters feminist extremism and misandry, took aim at these University of Michigan examples, first on her Twitter account over the summer and more recently in an email to The College Fix. “These kinds of policies contribute to an increasing level of sexual misconduct hysteria and essentially create a chilling climate for young men,” Bloomfield said. “When things like ‘withholding sex’ and ‘ignoring a partner’s feelings’ are framed as a pattern of behavior that is abusive, they are not only pathologizing normal relationship behaviors, but they are opening the door for vindictive or spurned partners to make allegations that can have profound effects for the accused.”
Please Select the ICBS National Chump-ion (aka dumbest state of the year). There are three candidates.
  1. FloriDUH: FloriDUH has dominated the worst state category, and with its "scorched earth" policy in place, FloriDUH seems the logical choice to continue its dynasty as ICBS chumps. Aside from the scorched earth policy, Lauren Book, Sheriff Grady Judd's botched online entrapment stings, and the abundance of Florida reporters and quotes in this year's Shiitakes make a strong case for a repeat performance.
  2. Missouri (aka 'Mizzery"): Missouri almost monopolized this year's dumbest law category will bills targeting registrant lobbyists, removing the ban on hearsay evidence in Sex crime cases, and allowing civil commitment on out-of-state registrants arrested on non-sex crimes help make the case for Missouri. Add the story of Donna Rosele, the hairdresser trying to pass a mandatory castration/ death penalty law on certain sex offenders, and Mizzery gives FloriDUH a run for its title.
  3. WisCONsin: Someone had to fill the third slot. Why not the cheesehead state? After all, Wisconsin seems poised to be the first state in almost a decade to pass a statewide residency restriction law, despite the evidence of its inefficacy. 2. Sarah Barwacz of CBS 58 Milwaukee takes credit for convincing Wilwaukee to pass 2500 foot restrictions, making about 98% of the city off-limits. And the WI Governor has already stated he will support such a bill.

The 2013 Annual Shiitake Awards Show is now online!

The 2013 Annual Shiitake Awards Show has arrived. After a few complaints there were too many choices, this year's awards show was leaner and meaner. The host was meaner, but not quite as leaner.

This year, the show was narrowed to seven categories, with three choices. So this year, you are truly seeing the worst of the worst.

I love my new Logo, by the way. This year, I plan on sending certificates to each of the "winners." I will update everyone on how that turns out.

The 2013 Shiitake Awards has arrived! Voting ends January 31, 2014

Voting for the 2013 Annual Shiitake Awards show has officially begun. YOU CAN CLICK HERE to listen to the 2013 Shiitake Awards Selection Show.

Voting begins now, just click on the following link to go to SurveyMonkey:

Below is a full list of the candidates and the reason for their selection. Many are nominated but few make it to the finals. This year, a selection committee narrowed total candidates to three per category. I hope this will make voting easier and more fun.

Which of the following is the DUMBEST NEW LAW of 2013?

  1. H.R.2642: Federal Agriculture Reform and Risk Management Act of 2013, Sec. 4037: This amendment to the Food Stamp bill was created by the diaper-wearing David Vitter. If it passes, will deny Registered Citizens food stamps for life, and states cannot opt out of the provision
  2. Miami Ordinance moves to remove homeless Registrants from Pottinger Homeless Protection Act: Miami has petitioned the court to exclude registrants from a 1998 decision which granted protections against police abuse of the homeless and in assistance for finding permanent housing.
  3. Montana SB 113: If passed, this bill would have allowed past allegations, even false allegations, to be used against you in court. This would have violated due process. Thankfully, it died in standing committee

2. Which of the following politicians deserves the WORST POLITICO award for 2013?

Which of the following politicians deserves the WORST POLITICO award for 2013?

  1. Bradford Co FL Sheriff Gordon Smith: Posted red signs in the yards of “sexual predators” in his community, and posed for pictures in an Abu Ghraib-like fashion.
  2. FL judge Migna Sanchez-Llorens: Judge Sanchez-Lliorens refused to release a man wrongfully incarcerated for 25 years, despite the jury recommendation for immediate release.
  3. Laura Ahearn, Parents for Megan’s Law: Cites vigilante attack site Evil Unveiled as a relevant source when attacking a critic of her work of harassing registrants in her community.

Which of the following journalists deserve the award for WORST NEWS MUTT of the year 2013?

  1. Sally Kestin and Dana Williams, FL Sun Sentinel: After reading their fearmongering headline “Sexual Predators Unleashed” in the Sun Slantinel, which declared 500 or so registered citizens not civilly committed reoffended over a 14 year period, FloriDUH pols have created a series of stupid bills. This article, of course, was written in response to the Cherish Perrywinkle case.
  2. Maxine Bernstein, The Oregonian: What better way to unveil the new version of The Oregonian than to declare your state a “per capita” sex offender haven? Especially given your proverbial “haven” is a county the size of Vermont with a population of 7,000 people. Furthermore, she insisted on sticking with the premise of the article after being given the facts by activists.
  3. Jeanne Sager, Café Mom writer: Sager suggested that a woman who lost custody of her kid to a (falsely accused) registered citizen should kidnap the child and go into hiding. She ignored the fact that the woman was declared unfit by a judge and that the registrant is most likely innocent of his initial crime.

Say what? Which of the following quotes is the DUMBEST QUOTE of 2013?

  1. Bruce M. Ferg, US Attorney (AZ), on prosecuting a 10 year old kid as a sex offender: "My opinion is this is the best thing that could've happened to the kid..."It is not vague to say, 'If you do this kind of activity, we don't care what age you are, you are liable for prosecution.' "
  2. Lauren Book, victim industry advocate: "In so many instances these individuals should never ever be allowed out for a second chance, they're ticking time bombs, it’s not a question if they re-offend, it's a question of when they re-offend."
  3. Jefferson Co. AL Randy Christian on registration during a disaster: "We hold them accountable every day of the year and when they come in to register we let them know there will be no excuses, not even a disaster. We take a no excuses approach with those guys. We think that that's necessary and think it's the right thing to do. And that's just the way we're going to handle it. Listen if they, even if they go to a shelter, we notify the people in the shelter just like we would notify a community when one moves in."

Which of the following candidates most deserves the "EVERYDAY ZEROES 2013" award? This is the category for everyday citizens and wannabe vigilantes.

  1. Bubba the Love Sponge: Long time controversial Florida shock jock follows example of fellow Shiitake nominee Sheriff Gordan and posts self-made red “predator” signs at the homes of registrants just before halloween in a publicity stunt.
  2. Meg Lanker-Simons: The University of Wyoming Feminist/ Politial Blogger who created a fake account and threatened to rape herself in lame attempt to garner attention for her blog
  3. Sara Ylen of Michigan: She falsely accused a man for rape over a decade ago, gaining fame and fortune in the process. This year, she was finally arrested for making another false allegation.

HOLY SHIITAKES is the category for the dumbest sex offender/ Registered Citizen related story of the year. Which story most deserves this award?

  1. Kevin Alan Tussy’s Google Glass Facial Recognition App --- Aside from teaching people how to circumvent the Google Glass ban on facial scanners, Tussy is using registrants to justify violation the ethics code to sell his face scanners and to try to make millions.
  2. Registrant arrested for having one bullet in his car --- Nicholas Elizondo can’t catch a break. First, the guy served time for a crime he most assuredly didn't commit after being prosecuted by one of the chief proponents of the Satanic Ritual Abuse panic in Bakersfield. Then, the guy has been ridiculed for winning custody of his child after the mother was proven to be an unfit parent. Now, the guy was arrested, and his child taken away, because cops say they found a single bullet in his car.
  3. NC Registrant arrested for attending church ---- Lincoln County officials say Bandy attended worship services Nov. 24 and last Sunday at New Vision Ministries in Lincolnton. Investigators say Bandy also attended Sunday school. Deputies say that put Bandy within 300 feet of the church’s day care and Sunday school classes for children. He was arrested Wednesday and released on $5,000 bond.

The ICBS NATIONAL CHUMPionship is the category for worst state of the year. Which of the following states do you feel is the worst state of 2013?

  1. FLORIDA --- FloriDUH has won three of first five Shiitake Awards. In the wake of the Cherish Perrywinkle case and the subsequent Sun-Slantinel article sounding the alarm about "sexual predators" who dodged civil commitment and later reoffended, FloriDUH is already looking to pass a barrage of knee jerk laws. In addition, Miami just removed registrants from a homeless rights protection bill.
  2. NEW YORK --- Suffolk County gave registration verification powers to the non-profit group Parents For Megan's Law and founder Laura Ahearn, at a cost of $1.2 Million a year.
  3. ALABAMA --- Two politicians try each year (failing, thankfully) to pass two bad bills. Kurt Wallace seeks to pass anti-clustering laws, and Steve Hurst wants to pass a mandatory surgical castration bill for all Registrants with victims age 12 or younger.

Vote now for the 2012 Annual Shiitake Awards!

At long last, voting for the 2012 Shiitake Awards is here!

Below is a summary of the nominees of the 2012 Shiitake Awards. This is a banner year for stupidity, so vote now before the Mayan apocalypse begins LOL:

Q1: Who is the worst media mutt of 2012? Which news media representative exemplifies the worst the journalism field has to offer, going beyond mere yellow journalism and into "brown journalism"?

  1. Chelsea Hoffman (Huff Post, Gawker): Blowhard reporter for Gawker and Huff Post with a penchant for stat twisting and stubbornness in the face of facts, in addition to upselling the importance of her works
  2. Chris O'Donnell (Fox 29 Philly): His story helped to get a registrant fired from his job as a Vendor at a Phillies game. This is more foul than the balls hit during the game, and O'Donnell's article strikes out with us.
  3. Ned Hibbert (Fox 26 Houston): His story on parks being "magnets" for registrants living nearby lacked the "attraction" to readers, but not to us.
  4. Phil Elmore (WND): Elmore's inflated statistics is only matched by the size of his mangina, as he reminds us all men are potential predators, including him. Plus his advice was extrapolated from the Cold War era.
  5. Sharon Silver (Proactive Parenting/ Circle of Moms): This Silver's reporting is tarnished when she automatically assumes a man asking questions to a group of boys is grooming them and a predator, makes a big scene, then writes about it.
  6. Chelsea Schilling (WND): Schilling is barely worth two bits, much less a shilling, when she proclaimed children are "raped, sodomized on Facebook" and Facebook was a "predator's playground."
  7. Samantha Manning (KFOX-14): Any reporter who professes a law was intentionally confusing when written by a state legislator but then claims registrants are exploiting loopholes and allowing "sexual predators " to "slip unknowingly into communities" deserves an award. A Shiitake award.
  8. Brian Bishop (WCYB 5 Virginia): Bishop should be flogged for harassing a homeless registrant for parking his RV in a Walmart parking lot, despite later admitting the law stated it was legal
  9. Abbie Alford (Fox 23 Tulsa): Abbie's second appearance in the Shiitakes, this time she heckled a man for FTR in true junior high fashion
  10. Ryan Luby (KETV 7 Omaha): Ran a three-part story on the vigilante troll-site Evil-Unveiled, despite protests from the many victims of the hate group. Watch his future story on the kinder, gentler KKK at 11.
  11. John Turchin (South FL Local 10) Take the T off his last name and you get an accurate depiction of a reporter disguising propaganda' ad for the AWA posing as an actual news story.
  12. Alan English, Sean Moores, & Kyle Martin: The three Augusta Chronicle Stooges are nyuk-nyuking it up after writing a fluff piece failing to differentiate between general and specific recidivism, then attacking and censoring opposing viewpoints.
  13. Anna Canzano (KATU Portland OR): she is sounding the alarm over the fact Oregon only lists so-called "high-risk" offenders, something that isn't news at all, since Oregonians have known for years the registry only lists Tier 3 offenders. D'oh! add that to the news promo practically stolen from the Bill Blathers radio show, you have the makings of a Shiitake winner

Q2: Which is the Dumbest News Outlet of 2012? This category is for media outlets who go above and beyond in exploiting poorly-created sex offender news stories for ratings on a consistent basis.

  1. KATU of Portland, OR: KATU has Anna Canzano in the current awards, but their incessant focus on residency laws and trying to force the closure and transfer of rehabilitation programs for registrants gives KATU a special place at this year's awards show.
  2. New York Post: The infamous news rag known for their outrageous front page graphics should be equally known for their shoddy reporting, as they reported NYC was facing a "perv storm" of homeles registrants, caused primarily of social ostracism and discrimination. Such as being called "pervs" by the media
  3. Dothan Eagle: Should be called the D'oh!than Eagle after allowing hate speech to be placed in their newspapers, especially when the guest writer is quoting Bible scripture to justify suicide and murder.
  4. Q13Fox WA: A catchy headline is all it takes sometimes, like assuming everyone on the list is "the worst of the worst" and they are "closer than you might think."

Q3. Who is the worst politico of 2012? All pols pander but some out-pander the rest.

  1. Sheriff Alan Norman of Cleveland County, NC: wants to make registrants pay $242 per year so he can feed his Krispy Kreme addiction. Oops, I mean harass the registrants in his community. Considering most registrants are unemployed, I doubt they can buy donuts for themselves, much less for Stormin' Norman.
  2. NM Gov. Suzanna Martinez: She's an ex-prosecutor who "specialized" in sex crimes cases and is fluent in myths and lies, and has tried unsuccessfully to bully her state into AWA compliance.
  3. Greg Smith, KS Senator: Up for re-election this year, Smith exploits his personal tragedy, a' la Walsh, into a budding political career. He pushed Kansas into AWA compliance and supporting Caylee's Law
  4. Indiana Federal Judge Judge Tanya Walton Pratt: Upholds a blanket ban against registrants' internet use based on "governmental interest" despite most rulings stating the opposite
  5. Colorado Republican Doug Lamborn: He supports the coal industry; he accuses an opponent of "disseminating CP" when the opponent shows a pic of a child bathing in dirty water, despite the pic not being graphic
  6. Tony Rackauckas, Orange County California D.A.: Trying to use sex offender park bans to further his political career, while deflecting the victims of police brutality under his watch. Look for a big for state AG in the near future.
  7. Debra Young Maggart, TN Rep: Drafted a civil forfeiture law on the basis that "Sex offenders are usually very clever people. They're very manipulative people and so they're always looking for a way for whatever law we put in place"
  8. Paula Stitz, AR registry consultant: Former small town cop fired for ethics violations, then gets promoted to work on Arky's state registry, like a bad fairy tale.
  9. Bobby Jindal, Louisiana Governor: Making yet another appearance in the Shiitake Awards, Jindal is livid over a federal court decision that struck down a pet project of his-- banning former offenders from using social networking sites, vowing to fight all the way to the Supreme Court, as well as a spot on this year's awards show.

Q4. Which quote is the Dumbest Quote of 2012? Some people say the dumbest things, but there is dumb, dumberer and dumberest. Which is the dumberest of all?

  1. "This country is based on vigilantism" -- Patrick Drum, violent vigilante "hero" of Pt Angeles Washington who murdered two registrants
  2. "Too often, sex offenders are portrayed sympathetically while the victims are forgotten. What are we telling the victims that are still out there and alive when we keep giving [sex offenders] second and third chances?" -- Linda Walker, Surviving Parents' Coalition, and Dru Sjodin's mom
  3. "The public has the right to know these people were dangerous, probably still are dangerous, or can be dangerous in the future to young children. Children don't really have a means to protect themselves. By having a means to access information that is out there about crimes these people commit is paramount to keep their children safe." -- Richard Ferrucci, "Senior Investigator" at the Oneida Co NY District Attorney's Office
  4. “When these people are out of compliance they are hunting your kids and your grandkids to sexually assault them,” -- Shelby Co. OH Sheriff John Lenhart
  5. “They do not want us to find them and that is part of the problem why they move around so much,” -- Det. Cori Steiner of the Shelby County OH Sheriff’s Office
  6. “They play huge games with the system. They know how many days to live in a certain spot before they have to tell Ohio that they’ve moved.” -- Bill Taylor, senior inspector for the U.S. Marshals Service.
  7. "when sex offenders feel they have escaped the eye of local law enforcement, they begin searching for victims. They could spend as much as three to five years gaining the trust of a neighboring family." -- Tiffany Kemp, program director for Shelby County OH Victim Services

Q5. Who is the "Everyday Zeroes Award" winner for 2012? This category is for everyday citizens who exploit registrants for fifteen minutes of fame.

  1. Emily Miner of Oswego, NY: She is circulating a petition to have a 9-year-old-kid kicked out of school, proclaiming him a sexual predator. Maybe we can petition to get her a Shiitake?
  2. Savannah Deitrich, KY: A teen who drank at a party and had sex, claimed rape, and created a blog to shame her attackers, all in direct violation of a court order. Well, the Shiitakes also runs a blog exposing people, what a coincidence!
  3. Brandon Benhamin Mau, Ft. Collins, CO: This man is a career criminal arrested for kidnapping and attacking a man with a knife, mistaking him for a sex offender. Ever notice how many here physically attacking registrants are people with lengthy records?
  4. Brian Oei, Trumbull, CT: Puts the bull in Trumbull, as he was caught harassing a registrant via Twitter and posting personal info about his victim online, then ran as he was exposed
  5. Laurie Ann Martinez of Folsom, CA: Went all out to falsely accuse a man of rape including getting a friend to punch her in the face. She could use a Shiitake Award for that, it is made of iron.

Q6. Which Politico/ Celebrity advocate made the Hardest Fall of 2012? This category is for the biggest scandals of the year

  1. James Thomas, AL rep: The 69-year-old Thomas was charged with having sexual contact with a 17-year-old honor student in his office at Wilcox-Central High School in Camden in November 2010.
  2. The victim, now a 19-year-old college student, testified that Thomas kissed her and forced her to touch his "private parts."
  3. Carlos Bustamante, Orange Co., CA: Specifically, prosecutors have charged Bustamante, who was arrested at 4:30 p.m. Monday by D.A. investigators, with 12 felonies and four misdemeanors, including: Six felony counts of false imprisonment, three of assault with the intent to commit a sexual offense, and one count each of stalking, attempted sexual battery by restraint, and grand theft by false pretense, and one misdemeanor count each of battery, assault, sexual battery, and attempted sexual battery with a sentencing enhancement allegation for committing the offenses as a result of sexual compulsion and for the purpose of sexual gratification, according to a District Attorney's Office news release. He voted to the Santa Ana Park Ban prior to his arrest.
  4. Secret Service Colombian Prostitute Scandal: Considering the current stance on so-called sex trafficking, I would have thought this would have been a bigger story. But there's nothing to see here. Move along.
  5. Jose Manuel Santiago, Pennsylvania police officer: Crooked cop claimed an evil spirit caused him to sleep with a 14-yr-old girl

Q7. Holy Shiitakes! What is the craziest sex-related story of 2012?

1. Parents claim V-Tech's "Catch-Me-Kitty Toy" is saying, "catch me, rape me". Methinks the parents need a Miracle Ear than can differentiate between race and rape.

2. Kit-Kat pulls Aussie ad over Pedobear costume scare. Gimme a break!

3. Fiction writer Jennifer Chase censors one side of debate after asking if double-murderer Patrick Drum is a "hero" for murdering two registrants. If you don't like the answers, don't ask.

4. Lance Armstrong blames his doping scandal on a sex offender: I've heard excuses for sex crimes, but I've never heard a person use a registrant as an excuse to take steroids. The man's crime? Indecent exposure. That means he was the right man to expose the truth.

5. Church Mutual Insurance forces churches to weed out registrants for 'liability' reasons: Big Insurance companies tried forcing small churches to target registrants and limit or ban them or they will drop the coverage.

6. Girl lies about rape, RSO still held on $150,000 bond: So this girl lies, claiming this homeless registrant raped her. Then she took it back and now says he only told her he wanted to fuck her. So he's being held on a $150,000 bond on the basis of a statement from someone who admitted to lying.

7. The Michael Arena Retrial: This man has been in 13 years on the basis of a girl's rape accusation she later recanted, and the misrepresentation of the accuracy of the Abel Screening Test. A false accusation plus a false test plus 13 years equals a Shiitake nod. Free the guy already!

8. Alex Anzalone, Ohio State Buckeyes linebacker prospect finds dumbest excuse EVER to decommit: by freaking out over getting a picture taken with a registrant, unknowingly of course, who attended a free Buckeyes football event. Anzalone should be flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct.

9. West Virginia forces man convicted in 1976 of ADULTERY to register: At least the man is suing the state. The law was abolished in the 1980s, yet this man was forced to register for cheating on his wife. Take me home, to the place, I belong West Virginia, take me home (then register)

10. Madison County (AL) Operation Spring Cleaning: "One by one, the cars stopped in front of a house, the deputies spilling out of their cars and taking their positions - two on the left side of the house, four on the right, another in a black SUV that held K-9 Rambo and two others who approached the front door. Some were in the foliage green, Army-like uniforms of the sheriff's SWAT team, others in the gray uniforms of the sheriff's reserve volunteers and one, Deputy Johnny Daversa, in the all black K-9 uniform." My mind envisions the Keystone cops or the jokes about how many cops does it take to screw in a light bulb

11. White van canvasses the neighborhood, searching for lost puppy. Sound the alarm in 3..2..1..": So some guy in Boston who owns a white van was looking for a puppy. So what was the guy REALLY doing? He was... LOOKING FOR HIS LOST DOG! Moral of the story, if you are a man who loses a dog, let the mutt stay lost. But it was enough of a scare to hit the news media.

12. WA Man freed after 9 years after daughter admits she lied about abuse: Only she was not charged, of course. The girl got her idea from a friend who got her stepdad sent to prison.

13. Stray bullet wounds Minneapolis police officer during hunt for sex offender: Deputies harass registrant, go to house, get scared by dogs and start shooting, one officer hit by friendly fire, officer gets Shiitake Award.

14. Neighbors think suspicious van’s driver is on sex offender registry in Chesterfield, VA: Its a story about a "suspicious white van" in a place called CHESTERfield. Oh, geez. The van looks lost, doesn't approach anyone but sets off the panic button.

15. The Great Wall of Des Moines: Des Moines spend a million bucks to build a fence so zoo-goers cannot see a halfway house where a couple of registrants are staying with other low-risk registrants. Does NBC still do those Fleecing of America segments?

16. Grove mother may go to prison for marrying sex offender, prosecutor said: A Grove woman on probation for having her children with her when she was arrested for public intoxication could be sent to prison after marrying a convicted sex offender — a likely probation violation, a prosecutor said. So you can't even marry a registrant in Jokelahoma.

17. Miami Commission Sues State Over Sex Offenders in Bookville II: Like a bad sequel, this scenario stars Ron Book and homeless Miami Sex Offenders. Longtime Shiitakes voters knew the first show was bad and this was the most unanticipated sequel of the decade, as the city sues the state to keep registrants out of housing in Miami.

18. Man can't see his daughter for reporting CP on the internet (England): A man who informed police when he found child abuse images on his computer has not been allowed to be alone with his daughter for four months. Cheerio and all that rot! The bloody wankers in Jolly ol' England are a bit tipsy with their sex register as well!
Q8. Which is the dumbest law of 2012? It need not pass to be nominated

1. California's Prop 35: will turn consenting adults (like prostitutes and Johns) into sex offenders, then force them to register internet passwords

2. Oswego, NY city council bans registrants from driving taxis: Obviously influenced by Robert Deniro's Taxi Driver movie. From the 1970s. But didn't the cabbie save the teen hooker in that film?

3. PA law to take earned pensions from registrants: Last year was the Caylee Anthony Law" this year it is the "Jerry Sandusky" law

4. Senate Bill 3258 IL, Bike trail bans: Bike trails in Harrisburg and Eldorado are now designated as off-limits to persons on the Illinois Sex Offender Registry thanks to a new law, Senate Bill 3258, passed this spring and signed by the governor June 22.

5. LA Facebook status disclosure law: Jindal's backdoor law to get registrants off Facebook is rather clever, get facebook to do your dirty work for you

6. NJ attempts re-issuing residency restrictions: Defeated by the NJ Supreme Court, the legislators, like Jindals, are try-trying again

7. LA Library Ban. Gov. Jindal strikes again

8. CT to make masturbating in prison a sex offense: Anything to make more registrants huh?

9. Illinois SB3579 makes participation in any activities involving children a sex crime
